When I look at all the different members of the music ministry, I’m amazed at the fact that we have such unique perspectives and come from all walks of life. I’m grateful for these differences...
Generationally, we span many years; creatively, we approach the music with different parts of our brains; culturally, we can all hear the music with our own instrumentation - God uses and blesses those differences under one roof in this congregation. Furthermore, in unity we sing, play, and make music to our God as we grow with one another in our own uniqueness as God has called us within the body. I love how 1 Chronicles 25: 6a, 8 discusses this, and how God has designed the worship ministry to effectively act in this way:
ALL THESE MEN WERE UNDER THE SUPERVISION OF THEIR FATHERS FOR THE MUSIC OF THE TEMPLE OF THE LORD, WITH CYMBALS, LYRES AND HARPS, FOR THE MINISTRY OF GOD...YOUNG AND OLD ALIKE, TEACHER AS WELL AS STUDENT, CAST LOTS FOR THEIR DUTIES.
As we grow in our musicianship, let us allow others to build us up and teach us; as we mature, let us be willing, as the Lord allows, to speak into one another and help others mature in excellence and in attitudes; as we worship, let our perspective of God be a beacon of hope for all who are witnesses. Our God is worthy of honor and praise and our worship ought to reflect His excellence to reach the many generations, perspectives, and cultures around us. So...let’s go for it!
