My Utmost for His Highest
My wife and I a couple weeks ago celebrated the life of her grandfather in a memorial service that honored God and the man who was an integral part of helping me go through my seminary education...
The morning after the service, we went up to Gramps' house to walk through before the estate sale, and we all had the chance to get anything that would remind us of him or that we valued. I have with me his personalized copy of Oswald Chabers' My Utmost for His Highest. The cool thing about Oswald Chambers is that he was a talented artist and musician before he was ever a preacher, and after God brought Chambers to Himself and called him to ministry, one of Chambers' life goals was to redeem the arts of Christ.
So as I've begun reading the well-marked pages of a book whose owner had a life well-lived, I will ask you to also think deeply about Phillipians 1:20 -
I eagerly expect and hope that I will in no way be ashamed, but will have sufficient courage so that now as always Christ will be exalted in my body, whether by life or by death.
Chambers' influence into Paul's writing is simply this: my determined purpose is to be my utmost for His highest - my best for His glory.
I pray we all would learn this intimately and deeply. Not only is God worthy of our best, but as we grow in this, we will ever be better for it.
